Jon Henry ThompsonI feel I have been an artist all my life. My hands have always been drawing, sculpting or building. All that was needed was to make a decision and get on with it. A BA at Hendrix College led to a MFA at the University of Iowa. Then it was on to teaching at Texas A&M, Kingsville. After a dozen years there, I went on my own. Woodcarving kept food on the table for about 20 years. It was painting that I really wanted to do. Through a remarkable turn of events our fortune changed! My wife was given the means, by the owner, to buy the company. I became the cook and painter. Belief that I create my own reality worked in a magical way. Now, I hardly ever miss a day in the studio. Through art guilds, teaching workshops, and entering shows, I have found a way to grow in my expressions of the joy in painting. Springfield, Missouri is home, with my wife Joyce, an ever present source of support. |
